Does anyone else use Medical Marijuana to treat severe migraines?
I have suffered from severe migraines for about the past 15 years and have been given prescriptions for all kinds of narcotics over the years, and normally keep a supply of morphine, hydrocodone, oxycodone, and demerol on hand along with several non-narcotic migraine medications to treat them with. I have over 30 prescription bottles on my nightstand, all for my migraines, and the side effects of it and the various medications. Each time I would see my doctor, he would give me a refill prescription of the narcotics that I had already been trying that didn't work, instead of finding something that did work, and didn't carry with it all of the side effects associated with narcotics.
Last year I finally got tired of asking my doctors to try something else other than the numerous narcotics that they keep pushing off onto me like a typical "drug dealer". I asked my doctor to send my records over to another doctor that I had spoken to about medical marijuana so that I could see about getting certified for it by him. I had a feeling that he would not cooperate, so at the same time I contacted every doctor that I had seen in the past 15 years for the migraines. All of them except for my current doctor sent the files over, even though he said that he would.
I finally got certified and received my "blue card" for medical marijuana last October, and have not taken any of the prescription medications since that time. I finally found something that works! At least it works when I have it. It is difficult here in Hawaii because you can only have 3 mature plants, 4 immature plants, and one ounce for each mature plant at one time, which is not an adequate supply for someone who suffers from 4 to 5 migraines per week, and there is no other "legal" way to get it in this state.
I have personally seen a decrease in the frequency of and intensity of my migraines since starting the Medical Marijuana treatments and I am wondering what other migraine sufferers have found with their treatments.
