Hi-
I'm an Iraq war veteran, I just got out of the Army recently. I have PTSD from both the war and also from childhood trauma. Indica strains have been a godsend for dealing with the panic attacks and insomnia I have. I like sativa strains for when I go to school because I can concentrate better with them, but some really pure sativas can give me panic attacks. Cannabis has really improved my quality of life.
From what I understand, the endocannabinoid system is believed to play a role in the brain's ability to choose what to remember and what to forget. I think it has really helped me put my traumatic experiences behind me, maybe by helping me forget? Who knows, I just know it works.

Glad to hear it's helping!
If you do some research on the anandamide component of the endocannabinoid system, you'll discover it's connection to forgetting. I think some of the Israeli military research reflected that.
One of my next papers (when I replace my dead 'puter) will be on exactly this and will be targeted to Duckworth, Shinseki, Webb, Sebelius and Obama.
I've read that indicas are helpful in manaing PTSD. They help to induce REM sleep, and help to forget dreams in which you are reliving your traumatic experiences. By getting a restful nights sleep you reduce your stress the following day which reduces panic attacks.

Jeanne, can you point me to this research on REM sleep w/Indica's?
I believe it was from an article I read that was published by Jean Tallyrand of Medicann. It was a while ago, but I'll see if I can dig it up.

This isn't the article I read, but it does address PTSD. Scroll to page 6 and 7. I'll continue to look for the original.
