Topic: Topical Application

A doctor at "Natural Care For Wellness" showed me a mixture to be rubbed on the painful area.  She (the doctor) indicated it contained DMSO, and vodka.  Has anybody heard about this?  Is there a recipie?   Is anybody here, from Butte County?  I live in Paradise.

Re: Topical Application

DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide) is an industrial solvent that is sometimes used to deliver medicine through the skin using a topical application. You can read more about it here - http://www.dmso.org/articles/information/muir.htm I have heard of medical cannabis patients using DMSO to deliver cannabis, but I urge caution. There is very little research or anecdotal evidence in this case. I wonder about using DMSO and alcohol. I think you will find a shot glass is a much better route of administration for a fine bottle of vodka!

Re: Topical Application

this recipe is my own and is very effective for me.  use caution if you have allergies to any plant material.

my recipe:

HEALING SALVE
4 3/4 cups virgin olive oil
1 1/2 cups st johns wort
2 cups dried calendula blossoms
1/4 cup comfry root
1/4 cup org lavender flowers
1 cup peppermint leaf
6 TBLSP coconut oil
1 1/2 cups dried cannabis LEAF
pure beeswax, enough to make a "salve consistency"

i heat the oils and add the dried roots and leaf. never boil or simmer. keep just below the simmer point. if you see bubbles then turn down. i steep the herbs for a couple hours, stirring every once in awhile. when done, cool and strain using several layers of cheesecloth or an herb press. place in a clean vessel and add beeswax. you wont need too much , a few TBLSP's ...you can always remelt it and add more if it doesnt have the consistency you prefer.

this recipe is a general guide. many other oils can be used/substituted/added along with other dried herbs and butters.  i sometimes use Emu Oil and avocado butter.
its a great general use salve for about everything including aches and pains. if this will be used on children etc you need to omit the cannabis leaf. the salve is great for bug bites/stings & little scratches.

enjoy

While this forum is considerably old, I'm hoping not to create more clutter by starting a new thread.
I have chronic pain from what has been diagnosed as fibromyalgia and I also have psoriasis. I have had a lot of difficulty finding information about topicals and their side effects. I'm looking for pain relief without the high or short term memory issues. Can anyone give me some good information on topical oil/salves/creams or point me in the direction of where to find this? I'd love to be able to find something that might be safe for use during pregnancy as nothing out there for fibro or psoriasis is really safe at all.
Thank you smile

Everyone's mileage varies due to their individual biochemistry and interactions with medications and supplements.

there are a number of FM patients here, and probably many with psoriasis as well...

Aside from the topical stuff (which hasn't worked on me so far, but I'm ABBY normal), look into high CBD strains...
you'll still have some psychoactive properties, but more will be going to deal with inflammation, etc.

recent research on FM shows that it actually AMPLIFIES the signal in pain pathways, so I'm not sure topical
will address this... you want something systemic and that requires either vaporizing or edibles.

Are you taking Omega 3's?
